Justice to Me collects a year of writing and art by OWL’s 8th graders, the Class of 2030. In English class, students retold short stories from a new character’s point of view, wrote memoirs about moments that shaped them, and wrote poems about the justice issues they care most about, from banned books to polluted water. Along the way, they read Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give and joined book clubs built around justice.
This year’s edition also opens with a section on the 2026 Senate Expedition, featuring each group’s research claim alongside students’ own reflections on presenting to lawmakers at the Capitol.
The book was put together over interim week by a student team: Anna and Rain handled the design and layout, Greta was chief proofreader, Isabel illustrated the stories, Anna created the section collages, and Melita drew the cover. Printing was made possible by donors who answered Leo Bickelhaupt’s GoFundMe.
